This event explores the challenges involved in designing and developing practical solutions for information search and retrieval, and aims to build bridges between IR specialists in industry and academia. This forum presents an opportunity for commercial organisations to share their work with a wider audience, and for researchers to learn more about the issues faced by search professionals in developing innovative search and retrieval products and services.

Celebrating 50 years of the BCS and over 30 years of the Information Retrieval Specialist Group

This year the AGM will be held on the evening of the Tuesday 22nd of May, together with a talk to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the BCS. The talk is entitled Past, Present and Future of Information Retrieval and will be given by Prof. Keith van Rijsbergen of the University of Glasgow.

These events are free, and we welcome all IRSG members to attend both the AGM and the Talk.

The BCS-IRSG has secured an “in cooperation” agreement with the Dutch Working Community on Information Sciences (WGI). Each year WGI hold the Dutch-Belgian Information Retrieval workshop. The primary aim of the DIR workshops is to provide an international meeting place where researchers from the domain of information retrieval and related disciplines, can exchange information and present new research development.
The 7th Dutch-Belgian Information Retrieval Workshop (DIR2007) will be held in Leuven, Belgium on the 28th and 29th of March.
